10 til 2

Attitude at Altitude - 10 til 2 fills niche placing moms and dads

10 til 2 started when a group of stay-at-home parents decided to tap the niche they knew firsthand: college-educated, stay-at-home parents in search of some extra cash or a way to stretch themselves professionally while their children are at school. 10 til 2's goal is to help parents find long-term, part-time jobs in today's high-speed workforce. The company's focus is strictly job placement.

Liz Norwood, Jodi Olin, Jill Ater and Heidi Crum, founders of 10 til 2, already have lined up 33 companies in their network, and business has been brisk. "From May to June, business grew by over 50 percent," Ater says.

Ater sizes up the company's philosophy as, "win, win, win, win." It's a win for parents because they get to maximize time with their children and earn money; for the children because they get needed attention from parents; for businesses because they are able to tap into an underground source of skilled labor for long-term employment; and for society because, Ater says, it promotes a family-oriented future.

10 til 2 hopes to change the workplace by putting greater emphasis on family, not finance. Companies that network with 10 til 2-referred workers know they are employing parents and thus must allow flex time when a child becomes sick or other parenting duties call.

The company backs up its commitment to family and community service by sponsoring the Gathering Place, a day-shelter for woman and children, and Seawall, a school for children with disabilities.
