10 til 2

Is your staffing service MOM-FRIENDLY?

Not only is your staffing service, mom-friendly, but do you advertise your staffing service as mom-friendly?

I recently read about two new businesses which focused on moms as candidates. One was called HireMyMom.com which is a new web-site that launched in May that will help companies locate qualified home workers by enabling professional women to market their skills, experience and education to businesses needing to outsource work.

The other business which was also totally internet-based is called 10 til 2. It’s a long-term, part-time placement service. 10 til 2’s original premise was to place college-educated moms in jobs that enabled them to take the kids to the school bus in the morning and be there to pick them up in the afternoon. 10 til 2 ended up expanding their original focus to include any professional, including retirees seeking a less stressful working situation who have at least one year of college. Weekly hours worked vary from four to 35 with 20 hours being the norm. Flexibility for moms is key.

As Tribune Media Services, Joyce Lain Kennedy pointed out, "Finding part-time work outside the retail and restaurant industries is like rock climbing without hands." 10 til 2 typical industries served include administration, law, accounting/tax prep, web development, consulting and insurance.

Focusing on moms and welcoming them may help you get more qualified people on assignments thus opening more accounts. It wouldn’t hurt to start telling people you are mom-friendly or we support the working mom. A mom just might pick your staffing service over another as a result of seeing you are "mom-friendly."
